LEXINGTON, S.C. – The Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission (LCRAC) is proud to announce a partnership with AstroTurf Corporation to install a new, cutting-edge sports turf field at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. This upgrade will bring an elite playing surface to the Midlands, enhancing performance and safety for athletes across various levels of play.

Known as the icon that invented the artificial turf industry, AstroTurf brings decades of innovation and expertise to the stadium, which is home to the Coastal Plain League's Lexington County Blowfish (Summer Collegiate Baseball) entering their 12th season in Lexington County and 21st season overall. The new synthetic surface is renowned in collegiate and professional baseball for its durability, consistency, and playability, providing a first-class experience year-round. AstroTurf is the official synthetic turf of Major League Baseball.

The decision to install an AstroTurf field aligns with LCRAC's mission to provide creative and meaningful life-enriching experiences through high-quality facilities. The new multi-purpose field will not only serve the Blowfish but will also accommodate collegiate and high school championships, tournaments, baseball camps, and other community events, making the facility a true hub for sports entertainment in Lexington County.

"We are excited to partner with AstroTurf to elevate Lexington County Baseball Stadium," said LCRAC Executive Director Randy Gibson. "This investment underscores our commitment to providing top-tier facilities for our community & visiting teams.”

The versatility and performance of the new AstroTurf field will allow for expanded usage and fewer weather-related cancellations, ensuring a consistently excellent experience for everyone. The project is part of ongoing improvements to sports facilities across Lexington County, reinforcing the area's reputation as a baseball hub. The new turf is projected to be completed by March 1.

“This upgrade is a game-changer for the Lexington County Blowfish and our community,” said Blowfish Co-Owner Bill Shanahan. “AstroTurf ensures our athletes play on a top-tier, reliable surface night in and night out. This new AstroTurf field provides a professional-grade experience for our summer collegiate players, significantly enhancing the quality of play and solidifying the stadium as a premier destination for baseball in the Coastal Plain League and beyond."
