Couldn’t Make it to Opening Night? Here’s What you Missed

The Lexington County Blowfish opened the 2023 season in front of a sold-out, packed house Friday, May 26. Fans got a first look at the returning and new Blowfish players as well as a new head coach.

Head Coach KC Brown started his Blowfish coaching career with an 8-4 win over the CPL’s newest team, the Boone Bigfoots. Brown, the assistant coach for the Blowfish in the 2022 season, has recently stepped up to the plate and is hoping to coach the Blowfish to a Pettit Cup title in 2023.

In his return to the Blowfish, starting pitcher Michael Watson shined on the mound throwing 10 strikeouts in six innings pitched. Watson had a dominant second half to last season and is looking to make an impact on the mound this season.

Dariyan Pendergrass led the Blowfish at the plate with 2 runs and 1 hit in his 4 at bats. Jonathan Jaime was also a major offensive key to the Blowfish victory. Jaime had two hits and one run, including the season’s first home run.

Another returning player, Robbie Jordan, closed the night’s game with two strikeouts in the final inning to seal the victory.

Ten local elementary schools participated in the Blowfish Reading Parade on the field throughout the night. Kids who read 4 books were able to participate in the parade from third to first base led by Blowie the Blowfish.
