LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. – Former Blowfish players Cole Mathis and Billy Amick were both selected in the second round of the 2024 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Sunday evening, becoming the highest two draft picks in the organization’s history.

Mathis, who played for the Blowfish during the 2022 season, was picked by the Chicago Cubs as the 54th overall selection in the draft. He is the highest pick to ever wear a Blowfish jersey.

Mathis attended the College of Charleston and is a two-way player.

Meanwhile, Amick, a Lexington County native and member of the 2022 squad, was selected six picks later at No. 60 by the Minnesota Twins. He is the second-highest selection in organization history.

Amick completed his junior season with a College World Series  Tennessee prior to being selected in the draft Sunday night.

The duo became the two highest players drafted in Blowfish history, topping Wil Crowe (South Carolina), who was the 65th overall selection of the 2017 MLB Draft.
