Michael Watson’s Throwback Durability Provides New Opportunity at Division 1 Level
Blowfish LHP Michael Watson was named NAIA First team All American today, as selected by the NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Association All-America Committee. In his 2022-2023 season with the SAGU Lions, Watson went 9-4 in 93.2 innings pitched totalwith a 2.88 ERA. Watson was also ranked second in the NAIA for most strikeouts with 134. He pitched a season high 15 strikeouts in one game against Central Christian.
“I’m very thankful and blessed to receive first team All-American from the NAIA, to be associated with those names around me is an honor,” Watson said. “To be able to receive this award means a lot to me but I’m still focused on going out and performing each day, working to get better. I thank God for this opportunity but I know there is more to come, more to work for.”
The former SAGU Lion is in his second season with the Blowfish and is currently in the transfer portal.
The future is bright for Watson, who is 2-0 this season in as many starts while leading the Coastal Plain League in strikeouts with 22. Watson’s next start will come on Friday, June 9th, at home against the Macon Bacon.
