Multiple homers and big at bats helped the Blowfish get it done and send the flock home Saturday July 8th in a 9-7 win over the Florence Flamingos.
Warren Holzemer started the game off in dominant fashion with a lead off bomb over the outfield wall in the bottom of the first inning. The Blowfish were able to capitalize on Holzemer’s momentum and score seven runs in the first three innings.
“It felt really good, it was the first pitch of the bottom half and I thought it was a good way to get the game going,” Holzemer said.
Austin Williamson started the game on the mound for the Blowfish on a positive note, allowing only two runs in four innings pitched. Landry Mead joined the home run club with one of his own for the Blowfish in the eighth inning.
Rising Freshman Thomas Powell proved he too can compete even at a young age. Powell hit a three run home run to make the score 5-0 in the second inning.
“It was a great feeling, I finally produced a couple runs for the guys and I credit that at bat to the guys cause they helped me with my approach and what to look for,” Powell said.
Phillip Ard was the last of many Blowfish who found the outfield wall in Saturday’s game. Ard closed the game with a pinch hit home run, his third home run in the last three games, to seal the victory.
“Yeah the game has definitely been feeling good recently, starting to put some solid swings together. Coming out with the fellas and continuing to work hard each day is the only thing we can do moving forward. I just hope I can continue to keep helping the blowies win each day!”
