Lexington County Baseball Stadium Unveils State-of-the-Art AstroTurf Surface for 2026 Season
LEXINGTON, S.C. – The Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission (LCRAC) and the Lexington County Blowfish are proud to announce the completion of the new AstroTurf playing surface at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. This million-dollar investment transforms “The Lex” into a premier, year-round sports destination.
The upgrade replaces the stadium’s original natural grass with a cutting-edge synthetic surface designed for elite performance and durability. Key benefits of the new installation include:
- Weather Resilience: Superior drainage technology virtually eliminates rainouts and the need for heavy tarpaulins, ensuring games proceed as scheduled.
- Expanded Usage: The versatile field will now host a wider range of events, including high school and collegiate championships, tournaments, and community baseball camps.
- Professional Standards: As the official synthetic turf of Major League Baseball, AstroTurf provides a consistent, professional-grade experience for athletes.
“This upgrade is a game-changer for the Lexington County Blowfish and our community,” said Bill Shanahan, Co-Owner of the Blowfish. “AstroTurf ensures our athletes play on a top-tier, reliable surface night in and night out, solidifying the stadium as a premier destination in the Coastal Plain League and beyond”.
The project, which began in early 2026, was completed in time for the spring season. Fans can see the new field in action during the Blowfish home opener on May 29 against the Macon Bacon.
