Old friends and new faces combined to propel the offense tonight as the Blowfish scored in waves en route to a 15-2 mercy rule victory over the Boone Bigfoots.

With Lexington County riding a 4 game skid, and clinging to a half game lead in the Western Division, Ryan Ouzts and Ethan Petry each left the yard to the backside to help the home side stay atop in a playoff push.

After Boone greeted starter Robbie Jordan with a leadoff homer from Will Dorrell, Robbie settled in and found his groove, allowing just one more run across 7 strong innings of work. Robbie fired 106 pitches in his first home start of the summer, scattering 7 hits and punching out 5 to earn his second win of the .

“It’s always great throwing at your home park so I’m happy I finally got a start in Lexington” said Jordan. “My defense played great and was there backing me up… hope we can build off tonight and close out the second half.”

Speaking of building, Ryan Ouzts continues to allow his momentum to snowball, with his current hit streak extended to a team-high 11 tonight. Ouzts opened the scoring for the Blowfish with his 10th homer of the summer, a 424 foot moonshot beyond the scoreboard in right center that left the bat at 107 mph. After the Bigfoots scored one to answer in the top of the 3rd, Lexington County erupted for 14 unanswered to put the game well out of reach.

The big buzz around the ballpark all night was the home debut of South Carolina Gamecock Ethan Petry. Petry, the National Freshman of the Year at the D1 level, had played 3 games on the road, knocking a single in each one. Finally getting an appearance at the Lex, the young star responded in kind. Petry ripped an RBI double down the left field line to tie the game in the 3rd, only to outdo himself in the 5th with a high arcing bomb to deep right field, falling into the trees for his first CPL home run.

Petry’s blast made the score 7-2, and the Blowfish added one more in the 5th and 7 in the 6th to ice the game at 15-2. Eight of the nine Blowfish starters had multiple hits, highlighted by a 3 hit day from leadoff man Dariyan Pendergrass.

With tonight’s win, the Blowfish advance to 9-6 in the 2nd half and 21-16 overall. The Blowfish remain atop the CPL Western Division standings by a half game, holding tight above the Macon Bacon. The Blowfish will take on the Bacon tomorrow night at home, in a pivotal game for two organizations chasing the final playoff spot in the division.

First pitch will be at 7:05, with tickets being available for purchase at goblowfish.com.
