The Lexington County Blowfish pulled out the win in a rainy reunion with the Bombers. The Bomb Island Bombers made their historic return to Lexington for a night filled with history and fun. The Bombers also celebrated their 30th anniversary since playing in Columbia.

The game remained scoreless through the first two innings with both teams off to a slow start. The Bombers got on the board first with two runs in the top of the third inning but the Blowfish followed with three runs of their own.

Thomas Powell continued on his home run streak with another bomb past the outfield wall in the third inning. Powell, a rising freshman at USC, has hit four home runs this season and has been valuable at the plate for the Blowfish.

Zach Cowart scored a game high two runs with one hit and one Bombers error. Cowart is one of five Blowfish who will appear in the CPL All Star game and fan fest next Tuesday and Wednesday at The Lex.

“It felt good knowing I was helping the team win. We have been playing some good ball lately, so it felt good to get another win,” Cowart said.

Ryan Ouzts, another Blowfish All Star, and Blake Martin also contributed runs for the Blowfish in tonight’s matchup.

Matt Dooley took the win on the mound tonight for the Blowfish with Bomb Island’s Matthew Garris taking the loss for the night.

“It felt good to get back on the mound, especially in a close game for sure. The team has been great, everyone is holding each other accountable and picking each other up. We’ve just been having a ton of fun,” Dooley said.

In his second Blowfish appearance, Noah Moody threw two strikeouts in his only inning on the mound with no runs and no hits. Moody first appeared for the Blowfish on the mound in the Blowfish vs Glowfish game on July 4th.

Lightning and bad weather in the Lexington County area ended the game early but the Blowfish still found a way to victory, winning 5-4. Tickets for next week’s Fan Fest and All Star game are still available at GoBlowfish.com.
